1976: CN TOWER OPENS
Toronto’s CN Tower is both a landmark of the city’s tourism and infrastructure. Today, the Tower attracts nearly two million visitors each year, which is a notable enhancement of the city’s tourism industry. Moreover, the Tower was constructed to address the poor TV and radio reception that was caused by the historic construction of Toronto’s famous high rises. Thus, “in 1971, Canadian National (CN) set out to build a tower that would solve the communications problem” (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
